No members of the Montclair State University community were involved in an alleged stabbing that took place at Floyd Hall Arena last night, a university official confirmed.

Reports broke from local news sources last night that someone has been stabbed in the men’s locker room of the ice skating rink around 11:15 p.m.

A spokesperson for the university said that the two men got into a fight before the suspect, 46-year-old Nick Kael, threatened to stab the victim, a 36-year-old man. Both men were visitors to the arena.

The Montclair State University Police Department (UPD) arrived on the scene shortly after receiving a 911 call at 11:26 p.m and recovered a knife.

The victim’s ear was injured in the fight, but it is not clear whether his wounds were caused by the knife. He also received medical attention for his injury, according to UPD.

Kael was arrested for aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon with unlawful purpose.

The case is still under investigation, with officers looking to determine whether the victim’s injuries were actually caused by the knife. The initial case is set to take place in Little Falls Municipal Court.
