Destressing Games For Stressed Students Ahead Finals

by Jasmine Bryant

Basking in the season, finals, projects and everyday courses are draining our energy little by little. Imagine coming back to your room after a long day of classes. All you want to do is drop your things on the ground and either scroll through TikToks, catch up on your binge watching or sleep until it’s dark out.

Well, let me offer a different approach, one that can be both relaxing and fun. Here’s a list of cozy games to play, maybe while listening to some soft beats.

Stardew Valley

Enjoy farming and life stimulation role-player games? Then this is the perfect game for you. Imagine a world where you inherit your grandfather’s broken-down farm and you are allowed to build it anew. This game allows you to choose your own path to success and engage in all sorts of activities to have your farm shine, such as:

  • Farming: Grow crops, raise animals and design your dream farm layout.
  • Skill progression: Level up in farming, mining, combat, fishing and foraging to unlock new skills and crafting recipes.
  • Socializing: Befriend and date villagers, attend festivals, build a family or just hang out with the locals.
  • Exploration: Explore caves full of monsters, treasure and rare items.
  • Community: Restore the Community Center…or sell your soul to JojaMart. The choice is up to you.

Available on: PC, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox and mobile.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you want a game that feels like having a cozy getaway under a warm sun, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the comfort classic.

What makes it so special:

  • Island design: Decorate beaches, plant orchards and create themed neighborhoods.
  • Crafting & collecting: Gather all sorts of materials to craft furniture, clothing, tools and decorations.
  • Villagers: Befriend a whole set of adorable animals, each with their own unique personalities and catchphrases.
  • Museum enjoyment: Catch bugs, fish and fossils to fill your museum so that all the creatures can admire them.
  • Real-time seasons: The island matches real-world time and weather, making each day feel unique.

This one is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, but you can try Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on mobile for a similar experience.

Unpacking –

Unpacking is for my friends who enjoy organization and making things cute and neat. You open boxes, arrange belongings and learn about someone’s life without a single word.

Why it’s so soothing:

  • Zen organization: Place items in kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and offices until the space “feels right.”
  • Story through objects: Each move reveals subtle details about the character’s relationships, growth and challenges.
  • No timers, no stress: It’s a puzzle you can do at your own pace and encourages mindfulness.
  • Cozy sound design: Soft music and gentle environmental sounds make it perfect for unwinding after a day of classes.

Available on PC, Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.

Cozy Grove

This game throws you onto a haunted island– but at least the ghosts are cute, friendly and just need a little assistance.

Why it’s so lovable:

  • Daily exploration: The island changes over time and encourages short, relaxing play sessions.
  • Spirit friends: Help the ghostly characters resolve their unfinished business to bring color back to the island.
  • Crafting & decorating: Collect materials, craft furniture and make your campsite feel like home.
  • Story charm: Each spirit has an emotional depth, making their quests meaningful.
  • Seasonal events: Similarly to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, holidays and in-game seasons keep the island feeling real.

Available on: Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Limbo

Not exactly a “cozy” game in the traditional sense, but its slow pacing, black & white art style and quiet world make it strangely meditative. So here are some things about it that are sure to catch your attention:

  • Minimal visuals: The black-and-white palette is simple and calming.
  • Challenging puzzles: No rush or score, simply trial and error and quiet problem-solving.
  • Emotional storytelling: The game does not explain anything outright, just taking you on a reflective, moody journey.
  • Short and sweet: It’s perfect for a one-sitting escape.

Available on: Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC and mobile.

Why Does Gen Z Love Them?

Our generation has become used to constant change, noise and expectation. Cozy games give us a world where we aren’t overwhelmed. We are given time to breathe and relax from the pressure.

Whether you’re farming under pixelated stars, arranging items on a shelf or solving puzzles, cozy games let us slow down in a fast life.

And sometimes that’s all we need.
