The Academic Affairs Council provided a draft of new enumerated student rights at the University Senate meeting on Jan. 20. The draft encourages teachers to consider the cost of textbooks as well as ensuring students can communicate with professors during office hours.
Provost Willard Gingerich encouraged the Academic Affairs Council to create this initiative. It has been in the works for more than a year and the Student Government Association has yet to be involved in the process.
Additionally, Montclair State University is moving to be classified as a doctoral institution. Currently, Montclair State is classified as a master’s institution and the move would enhance the credibility of faculty applying for grants.
Gingerich also announced that undergraduate enrollment increased by 424 students from this time last year.
