If you thought bubble nails or aquarium nails were a crazy trend, a new trend that beats both of them has emerged – fur nails.
The trend started at The Libertines’ fall/winter 2016 runway show during New York Fashion Week. The nails were more of a focal point on the runway than the clothes.
Jan Arnold, style director and co-founder of CND nail polish, helped to create these fur nails for the models to showcase during the show. Her team used Vinylux Weekly Polish, with “Rubble” for the brown color and “Cream Puff” for a white color, then adding a topcoat. The team finished off with the brown and white fur on top of the color.
“We were able to embody CND’s Fall 2016 trend story, which is all about authenticity, hand-crafted artistry and embracing the beauty in raw imperfections,” Arnold said during a press release.
“Fur nails are a fashion statement,” said Brittney Tokyo, a professional nail artist. “You can make your nails warm as well as cute. Fur nails are a trend – I think everybody knows about it, but no one actually wants to do them. They’re not for normal wear. But when you wear them for fashion, special events or parties, they make a cute fashion statement.”
People went onto Instagram to show off the fur nails. Comments on the trend are more negative than positive, with users posting “yuck,” “gross,” “hideous,” etc. as comments.
People also took to Twitter to show their dislike towards the fur nails.
