The Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship, part of the School of Business, will be hosting the annual Women Entrepreneurship Week (WEW) conference at Montclair State University next week. Events for WEW will take place from Oct. 19 to 25 at the Conference Center in University Hall.
The first ever WEW conference took place in 2014, which garnered much praise from participants and guest speakers including Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, the first lieutenant governor of New Jersey and the current Secretary of State of New Jersey. Lt. Guadagno will also be speaking at this year’s conference on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Montclair State is one of many universities in New Jersey that will be hosting WEW related events. Rutgers University Newark and New Brunswick campuses, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkley College and nonprofit organization B.I.G. (Believe, Inspire, Grow) will be hosting various events for WEW.
Sharon Waters, the program manager, and Lori A. Rowbotham, the progam assistant of the Feliciano Center, said that their role in making this conference a reality was contacting the guest speakers and organizing the line-up. They were also responsible for the marketing and promoting of the event. Designing and hanging up fliers, tweeting and putting up articles on the Montclair State website were under Waters and Rowbotham’s management.
The three keynote speakers at Montclair State will be Bobbi Brown, a professional make-up artist and Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Sallie Krawcheck, one of the most senior women on Wall Street and currently the chair of Ellevate Network, a professional network specifically for women, and Edie Weiner, President and CEO of The Future Hunters, a prominent futurist consulting group. These women will be talking about their beginning journey and later successes through persistence and perseverance.
The first event of the Women Entrepreneuership Week conference is titled “In Style: Women Entrepreneurs in the Fashion and Beauty Industries,” where Brown and Samantha Myer from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics will be speaking about their journey of becoming successful entrepreneurs. Some of their clients include Alicia Keys and Lindsay Lohan.
On the Feliciano Center’s goal for the conference, Waters said that she hopes for “students to come and network, hear the stories of these women and how they overcame failure.” But, most importantly, the purpose of the conference is ”to be inspired,” said Waters.
