Coming back to the States for their fourth tour in four years, One Direction took to stadiums around the world and across the country this summer. Despite the loss of one member, Zayn Malik, the boys (Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Harry Styles) pushed forward to promote their newest album, Four. In early September, they headed to Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field for a show that was truly one-of-a-kind. From before the boys even stepped foot on-stage, there were cheers across the stadium. When they did appear, the fans weren’t the only ones who went wild.
Belting the lyrics to “Clouds,” One Direction ran out and eventually down the catwalk where they would finish the song. Following suit, the boys launched into a shuffle of songs from their very first single (“What Makes You Beautiful”) to their newest single (“Girl Almighty”). As the night progressed, the boys continued to throw in old songs with the new and make a setlist for the show unlike that of any other. Whether you’ve been a fan for five years or a week, there was a piece of the act for everyone.
For what perhaps was the best part of the concert, Styles came out of his shell more than ever before – holding screaming wars with the dads, telling the girls to do whatever makes them happy and just dancing around the stage. However, that is not to say that the other boys were any less engaging. While Horan strummed “Little Things” on his guitar, Payne sat beside him and sang lovingly into his eyes.
In the end, of course, One Direction truly made a new name for themselves as they held their heads up high right through the final bow. Whether the boys truly take a break or not, there will definitely be millions of fans awaiting their return.
