The Red Hawks were unable to score for the third consecutive game, as they lost to Vassar College, 1-0, on Wednesday. Montclair State lost all three games while on their New York road trip. The field hockey team now falls to a record of 6-3, after starting the season 6-0.

The Vassar College Brewers got on the scoreboard early. Senior forward Hayley Beach scored in the fourth minute, which turned out to be the only goal of the game. It was her fourth goal of the season.

The Red Hawks were offensive minded throughout the whole game. They outshot the Brewers 10-5 and took nine penalty corners compared to four from the Brewers.

During the late stages of the first half the Red Hawks had some of their best opportunities to score. They had four back-to-back penalty corners and almost equalized the game with a shot by Kaityln Struss that was saved by Brewers’ goalkeeper Paige Amico. Struss would have another opportunity at a goal in the 53rd minute but it was saved again by Amico, to keep the game in the Brewers’ favor.

The Red Hawks will play their next game at Gwynedd-Mercy University in Pennsylvania on Saturday Sept. 24, to complete their four game road trip. They will return home to face off against Stockton University on Saturday, Oct. 1.
