Father Stretch My Hands

by Rosemary Rodriguez

Naive

Like flipping off evergreens

Out of envy

I still love you

Just a little less

Than before

En repose

I thank God

For the deer

The chipmunks

The bunnies

And the lack of you.

But I’ll still wait for the owls
