The Burnout Before Christmas

by Julie Shields

Twas the night before finals, and all through the campus, every student was cramming and crying during sessions.

Pencils were sharpened and prepped with care, in hopes that A’s would soon be there.

Students in hoodies and books on their lap, all settled in for a final review nap.

When on our campus, rose such a clatter, we rose from our seats to see what was the matter.

Out on the quad, to our blood shot eyes but appear, Rocky The Red Hawk and our president in good cheer.

Walking down the quad, we heard him exclaim, as he called to the incoming freshmen shouting hall names:

“Freeman,

Sams,

University,

Richardson,

Cole,

Bohn,

Blanton,

Dickson!”

Now back to our studies with caffeine running low, time to pack up and get a coffee to go.

Now out to the deck where the cold car awaits. We’ve done all we can to take the finals we hate.

As I drove off campus, and the lights out of sights, happy finals to all and to all a goodnight!
